Freestyle Comes Together for Saul Alvarez

You may not know Saul Alvarez personally, but if you are a music fan, specifically a Freestyle fan you have sure to have come in contact with productions that Saul has been a part of. Respected in the Freestyle community as an artist, producer, arranger , vocalist but most importantly as a FRIEND , Saul has been an key figure keeping this genre vibrant and alive. When he was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago , the Freestyle community came out in force to help.
On March 22,23, & 24 ” I Love Freestyle Music Tour ” held several events   in order to raise funds for Saul’s treatment.
Friday March 22  at Club  Renaissance in Coral Gables we were privileged to attend a sneak peak at Freestyle artist’s Corina ( Temptation) new one woman play which showcased the many talents of this versatile performer. The attendees were treated to a behind the scenes story of Corina’s life. The event concluded with a night of dancing at this prestigious Miami nightspot.

March 23 Miramar Amphitheater  was the showpiece of the 3 day event serving up a variety of acts that normally don’t visit South Florida. The crowd cheered and sang along as stars of the era performed their hits on beautifully lit  stage set up by local sound company  Reflections Productions. it’s difficult to say what the highlight of the evening was , but a rare South Florida performance by Information Society brought down the house George Lamond, The Cover Girls, Corina, Connie, Lissette Melendez, trilogy, Safire,Freestyle Express, Pretty Poison, John Minnus ( The Voice of Diamond Girl), Joey Kidd, Trinere and others rounded out this impressive line up of artists of the 80s who made us dance at Miami Nightclubs.
March 24 North Miami Beach  Bandshell ” RISE AGAINST CANCER ”   The weather couldn’t have been better for this outdoor event in the heart of Miami Beach. The final day of festivities brought together popular local, as well as out of town DJs who opened the afternoon of entertainment. Infusing some latin flavor was Tito Puente Jr. who amazed the audience with some of the Timbale skills obviously passed down from his legendary father. The rest of the afternoon and into the evening brought many of the previous night’s performers as well as local artist Ray Guell, C-Bank, Fascination, Tony Aby and Abel ( who showed of their New York dance Moves) Nyasia,Planet Patrol , Rochelle and many others who rocked the stage located just yards from our beautiful shoreline.
